Hear it and see it, line by line
The sentence being read lights up as the voice reaches it. Tap any line to jump there; chapters remember where you stopped. It works for pasted text and for every chapter of a book.
It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife. However little known the feelings or views of such a man may be on his first entering a neighbourhood, this truth is so well fixed in the minds of the surrounding families, that he is considered the rightful property of some one or other of their daughters.
Every result plays with the text in step, so you can follow along, skim ahead or replay a line.
How to make an audiobook from a PDF, EPUB or Word file

01
Drop in what you want to hear
Paste text, or open a PDF, EPUB, Word .docx, saved web page or Markdown file. It is read on your device — nothing is uploaded.

02
Chapters are found for you
Titles come from the book's own table of contents or headings, each with its length and listening time. Untick what you'd rather skip.

03
Listen, follow along, take it with you
Play each chapter with the text highlighted as it's read, then download MP3s tagged with the book title, chapter and cover.

Questions
+Is BookAloud really free?
Yes. You get 20,000 characters a day (about 22 minutes of audio) with no sign-up and no watermark, up to 5,000 characters per run. Paid plans remove the daily limit.
+Can I download the audio as MP3?
Yes. Every result downloads as an MP3 (64 kbps mono, 24 kHz). Books download chapter by chapter or as one ZIP with all chapter MP3s, each tagged with the book title, chapter number and (for EPUBs) the cover.
+Which files can I turn into audio?
PDF (with selectable text), EPUB, Word .docx, saved web pages (.html), Markdown and plain text. Chapters are taken from the outline, table of contents or headings.
+Can I follow the text while it reads?
Yes. The player highlights the sentence being read and you can tap any sentence to jump to it. Book chapters remember where you stopped.
+How do I turn a PDF or EPUB into an audiobook?
Open the PDF / EPUB tab, drop in the file, tick the chapters you want and press Convert. Chapters come from the PDF outline or EPUB table of contents; when a PDF has none, headings like “Chapter 3” are detected.
+Are my files uploaded?
No. Text extraction and the voice model both run in your browser. Your book never reaches our server — that is also why it is free.
+Which voices are available?
28 English voices (American and British, female and male) from the open Kokoro-82M model. You can preview each one before generating.
+Why is the first run slow?
The first time, your browser downloads the voice model (about 90 MB, or 325 MB for the faster GPU version) and caches it. After that it starts in seconds. On a computer with WebGPU it reads about 4× faster than real time.
+Does it work with scanned PDFs?
Only PDFs with selectable text. A scanned PDF needs OCR first.
+Can I use the MP3s commercially?
The Kokoro voices are Apache-2.0 licensed, so the audio you generate is yours to use. Make sure you have the rights to the text itself.
